Stars n Gripes

Cover ArtSo nice they named it twice—we’ll see. As a more prudent man than I once blessed, “If the world had a capital, it would be New York.” As a city inappropriate enough not to govern its own country, could New York possibly command a planet? With no other authority than my pen, I ramble around, hauling with me a mild alcoholic impediment, twenty cigarettes, my erudite wisdom, and a hometown reputation now vanished, only to be reinstate-sided.

Big City British Boy Unpeels The Fuss About The Apple. Thoughts from a foreign seed. New York City Revealed…

The subtle anomalies of New York’s obvious, unidentified and peculiar constitution are ripped apart merely to be resolved with elegant accuracy and perfect surveillance of a metropolis floundering on the precipice of distinction. Jonny Carter picks at every pimple that New York wants to conceal revealing certainty and comedy in his vibrant, edible writings. Sarcasm and cynicism are ripe as the native New Yorker can’t fail to gobble at his own failings while being tantalized by the next page appetizer of revelations.

An inevitable myriad of themes are strangled to submission and revived in a volatile stand-up or sit-com style of writing slanting a line of conversation never before visited. The everyday occurrence for the New York City consumer is represented with a new jingle and a scything endorsement. The Brooklyn Bridge, the all American female, TV advertising, the NYC driver, the religious idiot, the lack of abundant drinking, the boredom about golf, pizza and the parents of the New Jersey youth soccer kid are all embroiled and consigned to their required dearth of appropriateness. The read is charming and painful in equal dosage.

Jonny Carter is available for television interview, radio commentary, book signings, magazine submission, supermarket openings, relationship counseling, narcotic dependency seminars, amateur mohel procedures, children’s parties, and most Friday nights.
